Seed-to-Sale & Track-and-Trace Software

Track-and-trace and the ERPs that feed it: cultivation, manufacturing, distribution and retail software that reports every plant and package to the state system.

13 listedOperations & Supply Chain

Seed-to-sale software comes in two layers, and only one of them is a choice. The state track-and-trace system is chosen by the regulator: Metrc lists contracts in 25 states plus Washington, DC, Guam and the US Virgin Islands; BT Government runs other state programs; Washington operates its own CCRS and Florida its MMUR registry. Every plant, package, transfer and sale has to be reported into that system. What an operator chooses is the software that runs the business and reports into it — the seed-to-sale ERP.

The ERPs on this page differ mainly by license type and state coverage. Canix (San Francisco) syncs bi-directionally with Metrc and in 2026 joined forces with the cultivation tool Trym; Flourish publishes plans from $350 a month and integrates Metrc, BioTrack and Florida's MMUR; Distru, Cultivera and GrowFlow cover wholesale and distribution, with GrowFlow publishing $399 wholesale and $499 retail plans; BioTrack sells its commercial ERP and point of sale separately from the BT Government state business; MJ Platform (MJ Freeway, Boulder, 2010), PROTEUS420 (Vista, California, 2008) and NexTec's Sage X3–based CannaBusiness ERP serve larger and multi-state operators; OpenTHC is open source with published plans from $150 a month; and GrowerIQ, which acquired Ample Organics, serves Canadian licensed producers reporting to Health Canada.

Compliance-only software — audits, SOPs, license tracking, ID checks and the bank-side monitoring platforms — now has its own Cannabis Compliance Software page. When comparing seed-to-sale vendors, ask which state systems they integrate natively and whether the sync runs both ways, which license types they support well, and which accounting, wholesale-marketplace and e-commerce integrations they publish. Every fact here comes from the vendor's own site on the date shown on its listing.

Questions about seed-to-sale & track-and-trace software

What is seed-to-sale software?
Software that records a cannabis product's life from plant to sale — cultivation batches, harvests, packaging, lab results, transfers and retail sales — and reports each step to the state's track-and-trace system so inventory on the books matches inventory in the state record. Most seed-to-sale products are ERPs that also handle manufacturing, wholesale orders, invoicing and, in some cases, dispensary point of sale.
Is Metrc seed-to-sale software?
Metrc is the state-mandated track-and-trace system in the states that contract with it — 25 states plus Washington, DC, Guam and the US Virgin Islands on its own site. Licensees must report into it, usually through an ERP or point of sale that connects to Metrc's API rather than by keying data into Metrc directly. Choosing an ERP with a native, bi-directional Metrc integration is the main way to avoid double entry.
Which states use Metrc, BioTrack or their own systems?
Metrc publishes its state list on metrc.com, and BT Government publishes the state programs it runs on its own site; Washington uses its state-built CCRS and Florida's medical program uses the MMUR. Programs change vendors when contracts are rebid, so confirm the current system with your state regulator before choosing an ERP.
How much does seed-to-sale software cost?
A few vendors publish prices. Flourish lists Essentials at $350, Launch at $1,000 and Scale at $3,000 a month, with Enterprise quoted; GrowFlow lists $399 a month for wholesale and $499 for retail on month-to-month terms, less on a 12-month term; OpenTHC lists plans from $150 to $550 a month; Trym's touchless harvesting starts at $140 a month. Canix, Distru, Cultivera, BioTrack, MJ Platform, PROTEUS420 and CannaBusiness ERP quote on request.
Who owns BioTrack now?
Forian, its former parent, reports that it sold BioTrack in February 2023 to BT Assets Group, a subsidiary of Alleaves. The state-contract business now operates as BT Government, Inc., separately from BioTrack's commercial ERP and point-of-sale product, and in August 2025 Metrc announced a strategic partnership with BioTrack.
What about seed-to-sale for Canadian licensed producers?
Canadian producers report monthly to Health Canada's Cannabis Tracking and Licensing System rather than to a state system. GrowerIQ is built for licensed producers, with quality-management and GACP/EU-GMP tools, and it acquired Ample Organics in December 2023.
