Confirm CR certification documentation up front — test reports referencing the actual ASTM protocol, not just a claim — since a failed certification can pull a product off shelves. Map exactly which states the packaging is pre-configured for versus which need custom label work, and ask how the supplier handles a label rule change, since states update requirements periodically and a rerun of packaging stock is expensive. Sustainability is a live tension in this category: recyclable or reduced-plastic packaging is in demand, but CR mechanisms and opacity requirements limit material choices, so ask what tradeoffs a "sustainable" line actually makes. Finally, get real minimum order quantities and lead times, since small operators are often priced out of low per-unit costs that require large runs.
